Yankeeees...

My condolences to all of you diehard Phillies fans........

But it's actually kind of cool that the Yankees won the World Series.

Here's why...

A lot of you don't know that my grandfather passed about a month ago. He was a HUGE baseball fan, and especially loved the Yankees.

The pastor of our church has a little boy named Keegan who used to "talk baseball" with Papa. When Papa passed, Keegan looked at his mom and said this:

"This is sad that Pastor Paul died today...
He won't even get to see our Yankees win the pennant!
He even called it on the 1st of the year."

I had forgotten about that until this morning. We joked about how cool it would be if the Yankees did win the pennant... and now, they won the World Series.

Anyways, I just thought it was a cool story to share...

Hey Ashley!

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. Since he was a Yankees fan, he must have been a good man.

The World Series was tough for me. I grew up in NJ and have been a Yankee fan for life. Now I live closer to Philly and the Phillies are my adopted team. I was hoping either the Yankees or Phillies would make it to the World Series, but didn't expect both to make it.

Since they did, I wasn't quite sure how I'd react. I found myself rooting for the Yankees, but hoping the Phillies made a good series out of it. I think that pretty much happened.

It was weird kind of having neutrality though; I felt more detached from it than I would if only one of them made it.

But, its all over, it was fun and I'm glad the Yankees won. Now on to football...

Smash,

Sorry to hear of your grandfather's passing.

I agree with Rich, (Hi Rich), he must've been a great guy if he was a Yankees fan.

Welcome back from your hiatus, Smash.

Rich,

I had similar feelings about the Series, but I was for the Yankees all the way.
Had the Phils played anyone else, including the Mets, I would have rooted for them.

If the Phils had won, I wouldn't have been devastated.
I like the Phillies, the GM has done an outstanding job, and I think Manuel doesn't get enough credit for the tone he sets in the clubhouse.
Most importantly, they play as a team, a quality that has escaped the Yankees the past few years.

It's gonna be tough to replace what Damon and Matsui brought to the team.

Nice to see your post, Rich.

Hey JT,

Good to see your post too.

I really didn't know which team I was going to root for until the games actually started, but I found myself rooting for the Yankees. I certainly wouldn't have been heartbroken if it went the other way, but the Phils won last year, so I'm glad it worked out. If by luck they meet again next year, maybe I'll go for the Phillies. But, rematches are pretty rare (maybe the last was Yankees-Dodgers in '77/'78?)
